| Asbestos Surveys and Management Plans
OSHA regulation require that certain materials found in buildings
constructed no later than 1980 be presumed to be Asbestos
Containing Material (ACM), unless proven otherwise through
laboratory analysis. Additionally, the EPA requires that a
comprehensive asbestos survey be preformed on public/commercial
buildings, regardless of the date of construction, prior to
any renovation, dismantling, or demolition activities which
may disturb potential ACM.
If present in occupied buildings, ACM does not necessarily
have to be removed. If fact, maintaining asbestos in place
is often more cost effective and desirable than removal. If
left in place, ACM should be managed in accordance with an
Operation and Maintenance plan designed by a licensed Management
Planner. MES inspectors are Texas and Louisiana licensed Asbestos
Inspectors and Management Planners.
